The Fairfield University women's golf team started the 2006 Fall campaign with a sixth-place showing at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational. The Stags shot a two-day 699 at The Orchards, par 72, 5,827-yard course in South Hadley, Mass.
Courtney Richardson was the Stags top finisher, playing her way to a two-way tie for 12th with a +23 167. She shot an 84 on day one, and bettered that by a stroke on Sunday.
Alicia Esposito was the Stags next finisher, in a three-way tie for 19th place, with a +28, 172. She also played better in the second round, with an 85, two strokes better then her first round effort.
Liz McCabe struggled in the first round shooting a 95, but came storming back on Sunday, with a team best round of 80. The 80 was a team-best round and ranked among the top-10 of the rounds played at the tournament by any player. It also brought her from well back to finish tied for 26th at +31.
Krista Duval shot a 90 in the first round, and a 97 in the second, to finish tied for 46th with a +43 187. Lynze Murphy played five strokes better in her second round, finishing at +51 (195), and in a tie for 58th place.
The Stags were just 12 shots behind Central Connecticut State, and bested Hofstra by two strokes.
Middlebury College finished the tournament at 655, 18 strokes ahead of team runner-up Williams College.
Fairfield is back in action next weekend at the Lady Bison Fall Classic, scheduled to be played at the Bucknell Golf Course in Lewisburg, Pa.
