SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. - The Fairfield University women's golf team captured its first victory of the season at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational this past weekend. The Stags shot a team total of 346 on Saturday to lead the host team by three-strokes. Fairfield escaped with the win when the final round of the tournament was cancelled due to heavy rain on Sunday. The invitational was played at the Orchards Golf Course, the setting of the 2004 U.S. Women's Open.

"We were all very excited," said head coach Jeannie Gaston. "The course gave all the teams a challenge, especially considering the difficult weather conditions, so I'm very proud of the way our team played."

The Stags were led by junior Jill Macari (Reading, Mass.) who took 10th place, shooting an 85 (+13) while classmate Allie Schick (No. Kingston, R.I.) and freshman Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) finished one stroke back with an 86 (+14) to tie for 11th.

Senior Colleen Travers (Arlington, Mass.) was a top-25 finisher, tying for 21st place with an 89 (+17) while junior Julie McLoughlin (Rome, N.Y.) rounded out the field for Fairfield, shooting a 106 (+34).

Wellesley's Susan Choi shot a three-over par 75 to take medallist honors.

The Stags are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Albany, N.Y., to face Siena College and the University at Albany in a tri-match.
