Lewisboro, Pa. - The Fairfield University women's golf team finished eighth out of 17 teams at the Bucknell Fall Classic, at the Bucknell Golf Course, September 30 and October 1st. The Stags shot a two-day team total of 678 at the Par-70, 5,952 yard course.
Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) and Alicia Esposito (Middletown, Conn.) were the Stags top individual finishers at the event, tying for 25th place. McCabe played a round of 81 on the first day, and followed that with a second round 87, to finish with a two-day 168 (+28). Esposito shot a first round 85 and then rallied with an 83 on day two, to card her 168.
Courtney Richardson (Alton, Mass.) was one stroke behind her two teammates, placing in three-way tie for 29th. She shot a first round 86 and bounced back with an 83 on Sunday, for a two-day 169 (+29). Krista Duval (Quincy, Mass.) was the Stags next finisher, placing 37th in the event. She shot one of the team's best rounds, 82, on Saturday, and then carded a 91 on Sunday, for a two-day 173 (+33). Alison Goggins (Mattituck, N.Y.) was the Stags fifth player, finishing 78th, with a two-day 195 (+55).
The two-day event featured 17 teams and 87 competitors. Bucknell won the event with a two-day 632, followed by Lehigh with a 633. The Stags defeated the likes of Sacred Heart (687), Cleveland State (695) and Hofstra (710). Bucknell's Teri Schlang shot a +11 (151) to capture the individual crown.
The Stags will return to action October 27-29 when they participate at the Sacred Heart Fall Invitational, played at Great River Golf Club, in Milford, Conn.
