Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University announced today that senior Jill Macari (Reading, Mass.) has been selected as its Coca-Cola Community All-American for her excellence in community service. The Coca-Cola Community All-Americans program is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating and applauding student-athletes who are making a difference in their communities.

Macari, who will serve as co-captain of the women's golf team this season, distinguished herself through her work with Baphumelele Children's Home, an orphanage in Cape Town, South Africa as well as through her internship with the Diocese of Bridgeport. As a Coca-Cola Community All-American, Macari will be Fairfield University's nominee at the national level.

"We are proud of all our student-athletes and the commitments they've made, not only to Fairfield University, but to the outside community through their volunteerism," said Director of Athletics Gene Doris. "Jill Macari represents the very best of what our department strives for in a student-athlete. She is an outstanding student, one of our top golfers, and gives unselfishly of her time to help those who are less fortunate."

A panel of representatives from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) will select six student-athletes from NCAA, NAIA, and Junior/Community College member institutions as national Coca-Cola Community All-Americans. The final Coca-Cola Community All-Americans and their institutions will be recognized this summer at the annual NACDA Convention. Additionally, the six national Coca-Cola Community All-Americans will receive an award and Coca-Cola will make a $5,000 donation to the community/philanthropic cause of their choice.
