EDISON, N.J. - Recently, Fairfield University had six student-athletes placed on the 2005 MAAC/New York State Lottery Men's and Women's Golf All-Academic Teams, second only to Siena College who had eight student-athletes honored.

Senior Allie Schick (North Kingston, R.I.) received the honor for the third-straight year while classmate Jill Macari (Reading, Mass.) and juniors Lindsey Ryan (Berlin, Conn.), and Jonathan Vannelli (Medford, N.J.) are two-time honorees. Sophomore Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Matt Ferrigno (Lincroft, N.J.) were both named to the team for the first time.

Schick, a communications major, holds a 3.27 GPA and is the Stags' top golfer. This season, she finished in the top-20 in three times. In the fall, Schick placed 16th out of 85 golfers in the Bucknell Invitational and followed that up with an eighth-place finish out of 73 golfers at the Hoya Invitational this spring. Schick's best finish came at the Fairfield Invitational when she took second-place in the five-team tournament.

With a 3.93 GPA in marketing, Macari holds the highest GPA on both teams and would have been a three-time All-Academic Team member had she not spent the spring 2004 season abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, making her ineligible for the honor. Macari's best finish game in the Hofstra Invitational when she tied for sixth-place overall with McCabe to lead the Stags.

Ryan, who holds a 3.67 GPA in marketing, was a solid contributor for Fairfield all year long with her best outing coming in the Fairfield Spring Invitational, placing fifth-overall out of 25 golfers.

Vannelli, a finance major, holds a 3.80 GPA and is the top golfer on the men's team, leading the Stags in all but one invitational. Vannelli won two tournaments this year, taking medallist honors in both the Army's Fall Mulekicker Classic as well as the Cape May Invitational this spring. Vannelli also placed sixth out of 230 golfers in the NEIGA Championships to earn All-New England honors.

McCabe, who holds a 3.25 GPA in international studies, led the Stags in three invitationals this year. In the fall, McCabe tied for sixth-place overall at the Hofstra Invitational, and in the spring she placed second at the MAAC Championship and 18th out of 65 golfers at the Hartford Invitational to lead Fairfield

A communications major, Ferrigno holds a 3.34 GPA while taking four top-20 finishes for the Stags. Ferrigno led Fairfield at the Lafayette Invitational, placed 17th at the Cape May Invitational, 18th at the MAAC Championships, and tied for 19th at the Rehobath Beach Tournament.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter of reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
