Milford, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's golf team completed the fall portion of its schedule with a sixth-place team finish at the Sacred Heart Invitational Sunday and Monday, Oct. 30-31. The two-round event was played the par-72, 5,815-yard, Great River Golf Club.
Fairfield shot a 355 as a team in the first round and found themselves in seventh place entering the second day. The team improved its team round by six strikes on Monday (346), finishing with a two-day 704, and passed Mount St. Mary's to move into sixth place.
Courtney Richardson (Alton, Mass.) was the Stags top finisher. She was in a 16th place tie after the first day, having shot an opening round 85. On Monday she shot a round of 77, which tied for the best single-round score of the tournament, and moved her up 13 places to third. Her two-day total was 162.
Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) played well in both of her rounds, finishing fourth with a two day 164. She shot an 80 in the first round and shot 84 on Monday. Lynze Murphy (Shelton, Conn.) finished in a tie for 42nd place, as she shot 98-94. Lindsey Ryan (Berlin, Conn.) shot 92-102 to finish in a tie for 46th. Amy Bordonaro (Berlin, Conn.) finished 48th in the event, with a two-day 200 (106-94).
The 11-team event was won by Boston College with a two-day team 654. Also participating in the event were: Rutgers, Monmouth, Hartford, Long Island, Mount St. Mary's, Hofstra, Wagner, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut. Individually, there were 59 contestants.
