Coleman Earns Second Consecutive MAAC Offensive Player Of The Week Award

Apr 7, 2008

For the second week in a row, and the third time this season Fairfield University women’s lacrosse player Kristen Coleman (Potomac, Md.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League offensive player of the week.  The Stags rookie has now earned a weekly award in each of the six weeks of her collegiate career, with two rookie and one defensive player of the week awards to her resume.

Coleman, a graduate of Holy Cross High School, led the Stags to a 3-0 week with a 20-point effort in the games.  She netted 16 goals, including the game-winner against Connecticut, and dished out four assists.  In the process she set the school record for points in a season by a freshman, finishing the week with 57, which is 14 shy of the all-time single-season school record.  She leads the team in each offensive category, with 41 goals and 16 assists.

The midfielder started the week with a nine-point effort against the Huskies.  As the Stags rallied from a 12-7 deficit in the second half, Coleman scored five goals, and had two assists, in sparking a 7-0 run to take the lead.  She would follow that up with two strong performances in league play.  She touched net four times, with one assist, in a road win over Manhattan.  At home, in a win over Iona, Coleman scored five times, and added one assist.

Coleman has scored three or more points in each of her 11 collegiate games, and has put up five points or more in the last seven contests.  In addition she also has at least two goals in every game.

Coleman has helped lead the Stags to the best start in program history, finishing the week at 10-1 overall and in first place in the MAAC at 3-0.  Fairfield has won a program-record 10-consecutive games, and the 10 wins equals a program record for a single-season.  The Stags have also locked up a winning season, the first since 2002.

The Stags will play three road games this week, beginning at non-conference foe Holy Cross on Wednesday.  Fairfield will then travel to Western New York for a pair of conference games at Niagara on Friday and Canisius on Sunday.
