
Women's Lacrosse Tops Niagara 21-9 For 12th Straight Win

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. -- Freshman Kristen Coleman forged her name in the Fairfield record books while junior Kim Fuchs led the scoring as the women's lacrosse team continued to roll with a 21-9 victory at Niagara this afternoon. With the victory, the Stags (12-1, 4-0 MAAC), winners of 12 straight, clinched a berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament.
With her second goal of the game at the 21:40 mark in the second half, Coleman post her 48th tally of the season to break the record set by current head coach Beth Loffredo in 2003. Coleman also had an assist in addition to her two goals.
The first 13:14 of play were tightly contested, with the Purple Eagles pulling to within 5-4 with a Courtney Formato goal. The Stags offense took over at that point however, rattling off a 7-0 run, in a 10:21 span, to open a 12-4 lead. Niagara scored the final goal of the first half and the first tally of the second half, to close to within six points, 12-6, with 24:44 to play, but would get no closer.
Katie von Hoffmann kicked off a 3-0 run, to push the lead to 15-6, before a pair of Purple Eagle scores. Kim Fuchs netted a tally at 16:41, which was followed by three consecutive goals from Kate MacKay, giving the Stags a 19-8 edge. Katie Reardon and Brittany Bare rounded out the Stags scoring in the final minutes.
Fuchs led the Stags offense with a career-best five goals while tallying six groundballs. Erin Rigby and Katie McKay each added three goals and an assist.
In the cage, Lauren Chatnik made four save for the Stags while her counterpart Whitney Gill stopped 21 shots. Fairfield outshot Niagara 57-15.
The Stags continue conference play on Sunday, April 13, at Canisius. The game is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
