
Late Rally Propels Stags To 15th Straight Win, 17-13 Over LeMoyne

The Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team earned its
15th consecutive win, 17-13, over visiting LeMoyne College Friday
night on Lessing Field. The Stags improve to 15-1 on the
season, while the Dolphins drop to 11-5. The win snaps a
five-game series-losing streak for the Stags.
The game saw nine ties and five lead changes and the Dolphins led
12-11 on a Lisa McCarthy goal with 10:17 to play in the
contest. Fairfield would control the final 9:22 of the
contest however, using a 6-1 run to earn the victory.
Kristen Coleman would tie the game, 12-12, with an unassisted goal
with 9:22 to play in the game. Kylee Martin would follow only
48 seconds later for the fifth lead change, and LeMoyne knotted the
score at 13-13 at the 7:59 mark. With 6:52 to play in the
contest Abbey Goodwin netted a free position shot for what would
turn into the game-winning goal, with 6:52 to play. Erin
Rigby netted a free position shot at 5:55 and Rebecca White scored
goals with 3:24 and 1:01 to play for the win.
Coleman finished with a game-high six points, giving her 78 for the
year, and the single-season program mark all to herself. She
netted five goals, as well as causing a game-high four
turnovers. Five other Stags, Goodwin, White, Martin, Rigby
and Kelly Barnes, each touched net twice for the Stags, who out
shot the visitor 36-27.
Lauren Chatnik picked up the win in goal for the Stags, making nine
saves, including four in the second half, while allowing just five
second half goals. Her LeMoyne counterpart, Samantha Falcone,
recorded 14 saves, with eight coming in the first half.
Fairfield had 11 caused turnovers, with LeMoyne committing 23,
while the Stags committed 18 turnovers. LeMoyne held a 17-15
advantage in draw controls, while the Stags had more ground balls,
18-11.
The Stags will close out the regular season on Sunday, hosting
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League foe Siena
College at noon, with a Senior Day ceremony preceding the contest.
