White, Coleman Earn MAAC Lacrosse League Weekly Accolades
Apr 21, 2008
Fairfield University women’s lacrosse players Rebecca
White (Spring Lake, N.J.) and Kristen Coleman (Potomac, Md.)
received weekly accolades from the Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference (MAAC) on Monday. White earns defensive player of
the week honors for the second time individually, and the
team’s sixth award in eight weeks. Coleman is named the
rookie of the week for the third consecutive week and the fifth
time this season.
White, a graduate of St. Rose High School, was a force on the
defensive end of the field in the Stags 3-0 week. She led the
team with eight caused turnovers on the week and seven ground
balls. In the win over Columbia she had three caused
turnovers and three ground balls. In the regular season
finale against Siena, White had a season-high four caused
turnovers. She added four draw controls as well in the three
games. White contributed to the Stags offensive attack as
well, with five goals and three assists.
Coleman, a graduate of Holy Cross High School, was the Stags
offensive leader in the three games. She tallied 13 points on
the week, giving her 81 for the year, the school’s
single-season record. Of those points, 11 were goals,
converting 55 percent of her shots for the week. Coleman
dished out two assists; recorded eight caused turnovers, picked up
five ground balls and had a pair of draw controls.
The Stags completed the regular season with a program-record 16
wins, and a 16-1 record. Fairfield captured the MAAC regular
season crown with a perfect 6-0 mark, and is the top-seed at the
upcoming MAAC Tournament. The Stags will take on number-four
seed Iona, in the semifinals, on Friday. That game will begin
45 minutes following the first semifinal, #2 Marist versus #3
Canisius, which begins at noon. The tournament is being
hosted by Iona, in New Rochelle, N.Y.
