Women's Lacrosse Ranked 19th In Final National Poll
Jun 4, 2009
The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team added another item to its list of accomplishments; finishing the season nationally ranked for the first time in program history. The final IWLCA/Under Armour Poll has the Stags ranked 19th in the nation, marking the first time the Stags have cracked the top-20 in the poll.
The Stags went 17-3 this season, equaling the program record for wins in a season, on their way to capture the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League regular season and tournament crowns. Fairfield then defeated Sacred Heart in an NCAA Play-In Game to earn their first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Stags gave fourth-ranked Penn all it could handle in the first round meeting, before succumbing 10-8 to the Quakers, who advanced to the Final Four.
