Kelleher And Rigby Named 2009-10 Women's Lacrosse Captains

Jun 22, 2009

Fairfield University seniors Amy Kelleher (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Erin Rigby (Fair Haven, N.J.) have been chosen by their teammates to serve as team captains for the 2009-10 season.  The duo will lead the Stags, who have won 34 games in the last two seasons, including back-to-back undefeated regular season marks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League play.

"To be selected by your teammates as team captains is a terrific honor," said Stags head coach Mike Waldvogel.  "Amy and Erin are both wonderful young women, who epitomize the Jesuit ideals of Fairfield University both on and off the field. They are a part of an incredible class of seniors, whose leadership on and off the field over the course of their careers has been a pivotal factor in our success.  I look forward to watching the Class of 2010 take the reigns and lead the Stags to another great year."

Kelleher, a Glastonbury High School graduate, started all 20 games in the back for the Stags, helping the team rank as one of the top defensive groups in the nation.  She was voted First-Team All-MAAC by the league's head coaches after a season in which she picked up 18 ground balls and had 12 caused turnovers.

Rigby, a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, already has her name in the record books at Fairfield, with one year left to play.  She has tallied 111 career goals and dished out 47 career assists, ranking seventh and fifth respectively all-time.  The 158 career points she has accumulated has her ranked fifth in program history. As a junior she finished third on the team in scoring, with 63 points, including 41 goals, earning Second-Team All-MAAC accolades.

The Stags made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this season, falling 10-8 in a hard fought first round game at #4 Penn.  For the second straight year the Stags posted 17 wins, including a perfect 6-0 mark in the MAAC regular season.
