Junior Amy Neville had one of the best offensive days in Fairfield University women's lacrosse program history in leading the Stags to their first win of the year, 17-10 over host Long Island University on Thursday. The win improves the Stags record to 1-3, while the Blackbirds drop to 0-1.

Neville netted seven goals for the Stags, equaling Amy Buckley and Lauren Uhr for the second best single-game goal total in program history. She added one assist for eight points, which is the third best single-game effort.

In a game delayed 48 hours due to sub-zero wind chills on Tuesday, the Stags started the game scorching hot, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. Neville wasted little time, scoring the Stags first three goals, before Kim Fuchs and Mary Vallely netted tallied for the 5-0 edge. Neville made it 6-0, Vallely 7-0 and Neville 8-0, with her fifth goal at 20:47.

The Stags continued the onslaught, opening a 10-2 lead at the intermission. Fuchs and Neville opened the second half with goals, for a 12-2 edge, before LIU scored five unanswered. Abbey Goodwin scored with 10:47 to play, the first of four straight Stag tallied, to put the game out of reach.

Lauren Chatnik earned the win in net for the Stags, her first of the year, and moved into a fourth-place tie all-time in that category, in the process. She made seven saves, including six in the first half, as she played the entire contest.

Fuchs finished with a pair of goals and three assists. Sarah Masterson, Goodwin, and Vallely also all tallied a pair of goals in the win.

Fairfield won 14 of 26 draws on the day, three by Nina Tedeschi, who also added a goal in the win. White and Kelly Barnes both caused two turnovers in the win. Fairfield had 12 ground balls, three from Barnes

The Stags will return to action on Saturday, March 10, when they host Wagner at 11 a.m., on Alumni Field.
