The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team earned its second consecutive victory, 13-7, over visiting non-conference foe Wagner College on Saturday. The Stags improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 1-3.
Amy Neville continued her hot play for the Stags, leading the way with five points. She netted four goals and dished out one assist in the win. Sarah Masterson had a pair of goals and two assists, for four points, while Abbey Goodwin netted a pair of goals as well.
Neville struck first just 66 seconds into the game, but Wagner countered at the 24:55 mark to make the score 1-1. The Stags scored four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead that they would not relinquish. The teams then traded goals over the final 16:32, with the Stags leading 8-5 at the intermission.
The Seahawks scored twice in the first 6:05 of the second half to get within two goals, 8-6, before Goodwin netted her second of the game, for a three-goal lead. Wagner struck next, at 17:35, but Fairfield scored four goals to run out the game and give the final margin.
Fairfield out shot the visiting Seahawks 37-29 in the game, and won 12 of 22 draws. Wagner had one more ground ball, 31-30, but had one extra turnover as well, 23-22.
Jessica Richmond led the way for Wagner with three goals, while Teri Noll tallied a pair of goals.
Lauren Chatnik minded the net for the entire 60 minutes, making 10 saves, while allowing seven goals. Amy Jones started in net for Wagner, giving up eight goals, and making nine saves, playing the first half. Alex Johnston played the second half allowing five goals and making five saves.
The Stags are back in action on Thursday, March 15, hosting American at 1 p.m.
