The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team scored all three goals of the overtime period to earn a 16-13 victory over visiting Mount St. Mary's College on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Stags to 3-4 on the year, while the Mount falls to 0-5.
Amy Neville netted the game winning goal, her second of the game, 2:30 in to the overtime period. The Stags won the ensuing draw control and scored an insurance goal 12 seconds later when Ashley Chappell netted her fifth goal of the game, on a pass from Sara Masterson. Abbey Goodwin rounded out the scoring with a goal from a Neville pass with 44 seconds to play.
Chappell tallied five goals to lead the Stags effort. Neville added a pair of assists for a four-point day, while Masterson had two goals and one assist. Goodwin, Mary Vallely, Kylee Martin, Kelly Barnes and Ashley Jenkins all added goals for the Stags in the win.
Lauren Chatnik minded the net for the entire 66 minutes of the game, making 12 saves, including the one shot Mount put on net in the extra period. Her Mount counterpart Jane Karger recorded 13 saves in the game, but just one in overtime.
Fairfield dominated the draw controls in the game, finishing with 20 wins in 33 chances. The Stags also out shot the Mount 38-37 and recorded 27 ground balls to the visitors 24.
Casey Paris scored five goals for the Mount, which also received four goals from Katelyn Catanese and three goals from Kathleen Rossetti. Katie Falatach had a goal and three assists for the Mount.
Fairfield returns to action on Tuesday, March 20, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa., for a 3 p.m. contest against Lehigh.
