The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team dropped its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League season opener to visiting LeMoyne College, 20-10, this afternoon at Alumni Field. The loss drops the Stags to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action, while the Dolphins improve to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in the MAAC.
Fairfield jumped to an early 2-0 lead, as the school's all-time leading goal scorer, Beth Loffredo, netted a pass from Ashley Chappell just 34 seconds into the game. Abbey Goodwin followed at the 25:31 mark, scoring off a Mary Vallely feed, for the early advantage.
The Dolphins would take control from that point, scoring five straight goals in a 10:34 span, to take a 5-2 edge. Goodwin would net her second of the day, at 11:17, to close to within two, 5-3, but LeMoyne would score the final four goals of the half, for a 9-3 halftime lead.
After LeMoyne netted the first goal of the second half, Fairfield answered with back-to-back tallies from Goodwin and Valley to close to within 10-5, but could get no closer. The Dolphins rattled off four straight for the 14-5 edge, and followed a Chappell goal at 16:50, with four more, for the 18-6 lead with 11 minutes to play.

Lauren Chatnik allowed 15 goals in her 50:10 of action, recording five saves for the Stags. Kristin Genovese allowed five goals in the first 9:50 of the second half, without recording a save.
LeMoyne's Lisa McCarthy led all scorers with seven points, as she touched net six times and recorded one assist. Leah Mazella had five points on two goals and three assists, while seven Dolphins had at lead two points in the game.
