The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-7 decision to visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League foe Manhattan College Sunday afternoon on Lessing Field. The Stags fall to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in MAAC play, while the Jaspers improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Manhattan controlled play in the first half, scoring four goals in an 11:00 span in the final 14:31 of the half, to take a 4-0 halftime lead. The Jaspers struck first in the second half as well, scoring at 28:47, before Sarah Masterson scored at 28:29 to break up the shutout.

Manhattan scored the next two tallies, to build a 7-1 lead with 23:40 to play. The Stags rallied back at that point, with three goals in 101 seconds of play. Erin Rigby scored at 18:17, followed by Ashley Chappell at 17:01 and Katie von Hoffmann at 16:36, to bring the Stags back within three goals, at 7-4. Manhattan responded with five unanswered goals, four from Alicia Psillos, the last at 9:51, for a 12-4 advantage. Fairfield netted three goals in the final 5:12 of play, but would get no closer.

Fairfield received a two-goal, two-assist effort from rookie Rigby, to lead the way. Masterson and von Hoffman both also tallied two goals in the game. Chappell had a goal and two assists, while Kylee Martin added two assists and Nina Tedeschi had one.

Lauren Chatnik took the loss in goal, making 10 saves, including six in the second half. Ashley Devins minded the net for Manhattan, making nine saves, with six coming in the first half.

Psillos led the way with six goals for the Jaspers. Jenny Carman had two goals and an assist, while Lauren Civardi scored twice in the win.

Fairfield was out shot in the game, 30-23, and had fewer ground balls 22-20, while committing more turnovers 21-19. The Stags cleared the ball well, 19-23, while the Jaspers were good 21-24 on clears. Manhattan won 13 of 21 draw controls in the game.

The Stags are back in action on April 4 for their final non-conference road game of the year, at Columbia at 3 p.m.
