Box Score

The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 non-conference game to Holy Cross this afternoon in Worcester, Mass. The Stags falls to 4-9 overall while the Crusaders improve to 10-4.

Senior Beth Loffredo continued her journey to becoming the school's all-time leading scorer, netting a team-best three goals in the game. She now has 166 career points, one shy of Jessica Conahan's (2001-04) school mark.

Rookies Rebecca White and Abbey Goodwin were the only other Stags to have multiple point afternoons. White tallied a goal as well as dishing out two assists. She recorded three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Goodwin scored twice for the Stags, putting all six of her shots on net.

Fairfield goal keeper Lauren Chatnik had a career-day, as she made 15 saves in minding the net. She allowed 13 goals and played the entire 60 minutes. Her Holy Cross counterpart had 14 saves while allowing eight goals.

Holy Cross' Patricia Sutton tallied the first three goals of the game, all coming in the first 9:15 of play, for the 3-0 lead. Loffredo broke through for the Stags at the 17:59 mark, and Sarah Masterson put the Stags within one, tallying an unassisted goal at 16:25. The Crusaders netted goals at 13:14 and 1:28 to end the first half with a 5-2 advantage.

The Crusaders struck first in the second half as well, on a Kristine Corkum goal. Goodwin resonded quickly to make the score 6-3, a goal which was answered by the Crusaders at 25:38. Loffredo wasted little tim in getting the goal back, netting an unassisted goal ten seconds later, to make the score 7-4. Holy Cross scored twice, at 24:31 and 23:04, to take a 9-4 lead, but the Stags charged once again.

White scored her goal, unassisted at 21:11 and Goodwin netter her second, from Caroline Madrak at 16:15 to cut the deficit to three, 9-6. The Crusaders scored four unanswered goals over the next 15 minutes to take a commanding 13-6 advantage. Lara Hannigan scored with 19 seconds to play, and Loffredo scored her third with five seconds left, for the final margin.

Holy Cross had a 36-28 advantage in shots and a 23-19 edge in ground balls. The Crusaders were led by the five-goal effort of Sutton, and recieved four goals from Corkum.

Fairfield will be off for a week, before returning to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League play on April 19 at Marist College.
