Box Score

The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team picked up a key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League win, defeating host Marist College 16-10 this afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Stags are now 5-9 with the win and 3-2, tied with Manhattan, in MAAC play, while the Red Foxes drop to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Fairfield led the game 9-5 at the intermission and stormed out of the games in the second half to take control of the game. Ashley Chappell scored her third goal of the game 80 seconds into the half, follwoed by goals from Sarah Masterson and Cristin Lucena, to give Fairfield an 11-5 lead. After a Red Fox goal, Abbey Goodwin score to push the lead to 12-6 with 16:32 to play. The Red Foxes scored twice at 13:24 and 12:41 to get back within four, at 12-8, but Lara Hannigan snuffed the run with an unassisted goal at 10:14. The teams traded goals in the final minutes, with the Stags tallying the last two scores for the 16-10 win.

The Stags dominated the game scoring the first two goals and never trailing in the contest. Chapell netted the first goal, from Caroline Madrak, at 27:17 and Mary Vallely gave the Stags the 2-0 lead 51 seconds later, unassisted. After a Red Fox tally at 26:02, Rebecca White and Lara Hannigan netted back-to-back goals, to push the lead to 4-1 with 17:00 to play in the first half. The Red Foxes scored twice to cut the Stags lead to one, 4-3, but Goodwin scored wtih 12:18 to play, and then White and Caitlin Keane netted goals for the 7-4 edge.

Chappell led the Stags offense on the day, scoring four goals and dishing out one asist. She also two ground balls in the win. Goodwin scored three goals and added an assist for Fairfield, while pickuing up three draw control wins and two ground balls.

Sarah Masterson tallied a pair of goals, while also leading the team with five caused turnovers. Beth Loffredo had no points in the game, buty had three caused turnovers, three gound balls and a pair of draw controls.

Rebecca White finished with three points, on two goals and an assist, while Hannigan added a pair of goals as well. Madrak finished with two assists.

Lauren Chatnik earnd the win for Fairfield in net, making seven saves.

Fairfield will travel to Manhattan on Saturday for a MAAC Lacrosse League game. The game time for that contest has been changed to 11:00 a.m. Fairfield will close out the regular season at home with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday versus Iona.
