The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team earned two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League weekly awards, a week after sweeping all three honors. Ashley Chappell (Potomac, Md.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Mary Vallely (Ayer, Mass.) earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Chappell, a graduate of Stone Ridge Academy of the Sacred Heart, led the Stags offensive attack with six goals. In the Stags 16-13 overtime win over Mount St. Mary's she netted five goals. The biggest goal came with 41 seconds left in regulation when Chappell touched net to knot the score 13-13 and force the extra period. Her fifth goal in that game was an insurance goal in overtime. On the week she recorded five ground balls and had a pair of caused turnovers.
Vallely, a graduate of Lawrence Academy, played a key role in the Stags defensive efforts on the week. Against American University, Vallely posted seven draw controls, the second best single-game effort in program history. She also picked up seven ground balls in that contest. Against the Mount, Vallely had four ground balls, caused three more turnovers and had four draw controls. She also contributed a goal in the winning effort.
Fairfield has won three of its last four games this season, improving to 3-4 overall. The Stags return to action on Tuesday, March 20, when they travel to Lehigh, before returning home to open MAAC Lacrosse League play on March 24 against Marist.
