Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University freshmen Lauren Chatnik (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Abbey Goodwin (Columbus, Ohio) were honored as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced by the conference office this afternoon. The duo led the Stags to a 3-0 week and a third-seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament, April 28-30.

Chatnik was impressive in three games this week, starting each of the contests. She posted a 55.3 save percentage on the week, with 21 saves. In the win over Marist, she has seven saves, and notched 12 in the tournament berth securing win over Manhattan. She had an impressive 6.79 GAA on the week, allowing just six goals in the win over Manhattan and only one in the win over Iona.

Lauren Chatnik was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.


Goodwin continued to impress in her final regular season week as a rookie. She tallied nine points on the week, consisting of six goals and three assists. Goodwin netted three goals and had one assist as the Stags beat Marist on the road. She had two goals in the road win over Manhattan to secure a tournament berth. Goodwin finished the regular season with a goal and two assists in the win over Iona. For the week she had six ground balls and won three draws.

The Stags are 7-9 on the year and 5-2 in MAAC play. They are the third seed in the MAAC Tournament, and will play #2 Canisius in the second semifinal. The game will follow the first semifinal, LeMoyne against either Manhattan or Marist, which begins at 1 p.m on Friday. The MAAC Tournament is being hosted by Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
