Fairfield University freshman lacrosse player, Abbey Goodwin (Columbus, Ohio) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year, announced this evening at the tournament banquet. Goodwin was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team as an attack. Senior Beth Loffredo (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was named to the All-MAAC First Team, while Sarah Masterson (Sea Girt, N.J) and Katie von Hoffmann (Montclair, N.J.) earned All-MAAC Second Team honors.

Goodwin made an immediate impact for the Stags this season and joins Loffredo as the only Stags to have earned MAAC Rookie of the Year accolades. A graduate of Upper Arlington High School she finished the regular season tied for the team lead with 37 goals, which is fourth in the MAAC. Goodwin also dished out four assists, to finish the year second on the Stags roster with 41 points.

Beth Loffredo has been named First Team All-MAAC three times during her Fairfield career.



Loffredo, a graduate of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is the school's all-time leading scorer with 175. She led the team, and was fifth in the conference, with her 53 points this season. She tallied 37 goals, which ranks her fourth in the MAAC and tops on the team. She is also the all-time leading goal scorer in program history, with 136 tallies, in 54 career games. Loffredo earns First Team All-MAAC honors for the third time in her career, missing out just last season, when she only played five games due to injury. Loffredo was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, and was the first Stag in program history to be named MAAC Rookie of the Year.


Katie von Hoffmann leads the Stags with 21 caused turnovers.



Von Hoffmann, a graduate of Montclair High School, was named to the All-MAAC Second Team on defense. A sophomore, she started all 16 of the Stags games this season. She finished the campaign second on the team with 36 ground balls as was third on the team with her 13 caused turnovers. In the regular season finale, she recorded seven caused turnovers, which is the second best single-game effort in program history.


Masterson, a graduate of Manasquan High School, earns her first conference award after a strong junior season. She started all 16 games, finishing the season with 27 points, on 20 goals and seven assists. A midfielder, Masterson also had a team-best 32 draw controls, and was third on the team with 33 ground balls.

Sarah Masterson scored 10 points in the Stags three games against the MAAC Tournament field.



Fairfield, 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the MAAC, is the number three-seed at the MAAC Tournament, which begins on Friday. The Stags will take on second-seeded Canisius in the second semifinal, 45 minutes after LeMoyne and Manhattan complete the first semifinal. The championship game is scheduled for noon on Sunday, with all three games being played on Mazzella Field at Iona College.
