Fairfield University head women's lacrosse coach Stacey McCue announced that three players signed national letters of intent during the early signing period. Brittany Bare (Mason, Ohio), Kristen Coleman (Potomac, Md.) and Katie MacKay (East Lyme, Conn.) are the first members of the Stags Class of 2011.

"I am excited and pleased to have received NLI's from these three players," said McCue, "and I look forward to them contributing to the program over the course of their careers."

Bare, currently attending Mason High School, is a midfielder that led her team in ground balls and interceptions her sophomore and junior campaigns. Last season she led her squad to the Ohio Southern Regional Championship, after finishing as the state runner-up as a sophomore.

"Brittany is a versatile player who is very quick and moves well off the ball," McCue said. "She is very athletic, plays hard and has great game sense."

Coleman is in her final year as a midfielder at the Academy of the Holy Cross. She was named First Team All-Washington Catholic Conference as a junior, tallying 81 points, on 57 goals and 24 assists. She was the team MVP last season, as well as serving as a team captain. This summer she made it to the final round of tryouts for the US U-19 National Team.

"Kristen has great size, speed and skills," said McCue. "She is an extremely smart player and is very composed whenever she is on the field."

MacKay is completing her senior year at East Lyme High School where she will be a team captain this spring. Her junior year saw her earn Second Team All-State accolades, as well as First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Area. She was a First Team All-State selection as a sophomore, leading her team in scoring.

"Katie has outstanding speed and athleticism," said McCue. "She has great field awareness, is quick to the goal and is an effective defender."

Fairfield is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League. The Stags finished 7-10 overall in 2006, 4-2 in the MAAC, good for third place and a berth in the conference tournament. The Stags will open the 2007 campaign February 24 at Villanova, and open at home two days later against Yale.
