Rowing Programs Dedicate New Shell To George E. Diffley During Ceremony

Dec 5, 2007

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Head Coach David Patterson dedicated the program's new shell to George E. Diffley, former Vice President of University Advancement on December 4. Both teams were on hand to celebrate the dedication, which took place in front of nearly 2,500 people during halftime of the men's basketball game on December 4.

Diffley headed the Advancement Division at Fairfield University from 1975 until his retirement in June, 2006. Under his guidance, the University enjoyed unprecedented growth. His vision was instrumental in Fairfield University's development over the last three decades. Student athletes became well acquainted with Diffley through his attendance at many athletic games and functions.   A firm hand shake, a word of encouragement, or simply a smile would often communicate his sense of pride after each contest.

The shell will be in use starting with the spring season, as the men's and women's rowing programs open their 2008 campaign in March.
