Frobey, Caram Tally Goals In 2-0 Win Over Air Force

Aug 31, 2007

DENVER - The Fairfield University women's soccer team kicked off its season with a 2-0 win over Air Force in the first round of the University of Denver Soccer Classic.  The Stags, 1-0 will take on Colorado on Sunday at 11 am mountain time, while the Falcons, 0-1, will challenge the host.

Opening day nerves led to a back-and-forth contest for the first 30 minutes of action, but the Stags began to take control of time of possession.  Sophomore Casey Frobey volleyed home a feed from the foot of Janna Breitenwischer at 34:03 for the lead.

Brett Maron minded the net for the Stags, making two saves, but corralling several more dangerous balls from the Falcons to keep them scoreless at halftime.

Fairfield wasted little time adding an insurance goal in the second half, as Alex Caram wove a shot through two Air Force defenders and found the back of the net.  Robyn Decker recorded her first assist on the goal.  The defensive unit controlled the Air Force attack, with Maron backstopping it with one more save, to post the shutout.

Maron, with her three saves, and clean sheet, now has 18 career shutouts, 6.5 shy of the school record held by Anne Lyons.  She is two shy of tying Christen Veach for second all-time.

Head coach Jim O'Brien, in his third season at the helm of the Stags, picked up a season opening win for the first time.  The Stags have not won a season opener since 2002, defeating Wagner 3-2 in double overtime on the road.
