Maron Named MAAC Defensive Player Of The Week
Sep 4, 2007
– Fairfield University women’s soccer player Brett
Maron (Billerica, Mass.) was named the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of
the Week. It marks Maron’s first award of the season,
and fifth in the last two seasons.
Maron, a graduate of Billerica High School, backstopped the Stags
to a 1-0-1 record during the opening weekend at the DU Classic in
Denver, Colo. In the season opener against Air Force, Maron
made three saves, and posted a clean sheet. The shutout was
her 18th as a Stag, bringing her closer to the school record in the
category. Maron was even more impressive on Sunday in the
Stags contest with #14 Colorado. She tied a school-record
with 14 saves in helping Fairfield to a 1-1 double overtime
time.
Maron has 17 saves in the first two games of the year. In 200
minutes of action this season, she has allowed just one goal, for a
goals-against average of 0.45 and a save percentage of 94.4
percent. She now has 288 career saves, 12 shy of becoming
just the third Stag to reach 300 for her time in college.
The Stags will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to
Seton Hall for a non-conference contest. Fairfield opens the
home portion of its schedule on Friday, hosting Colgate at 7 p.m.
on Lessing Field.
