Seton Hall Hands Women's Soccer 2-0 Loss
Sep 5, 2007
On the road for the third straight game to start the season, the Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped its first contest of the year, falling 2-0 to Big East Conference member Seton Hall. The Stags are now 1-1-1 on the young season, while the Pirates improve to 3-0 on the year.
The teams played evenly in the first half, with Seton Hall holding a 5-3 advantage in shots, but neither team could convert. The Stags had a pair of corner kicks in the period as well.
The Pirates struck for their first tally at 66:29 on a Nicki Gross goal, and wasted little time in scoring an insurance goal. Katie Andreski netted a goal 3:24 later, to wrap up the scoring. Seton Hall out shot the Stags 8-7 in the second half, and 13-10 for the game.
Brett Maron made a pair of saves in net for the Stags, playing the entire 90 minutes. Her Seton Hall counterpart Amanda Becker recorded three saves.
Fairfield held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, earning four in the second half, while holding the Pirates to one in each half. The Stags also committed more fouls, 17-10 in the game, with each team being called for offsides on three occasions.
Fairfield, ranked fifth in the Northeast Region by the NSCAA this week, opens the home portion of its schedule on Friday, hosting Colgate University. That game, set for Lessing Field, will begin at 7 p.m.
