Church Nets PK In Stags 4-1 Loss At UConn

Storrs, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 (box score) decision to #23 Connecticut this afternoon in the final game of the UConn Classic, in Storrs, Conn.  The loss drops the Stags to 2-3-1 on the year, while the Huskies improve to 4-2-0.

UConn, which tallied 21 shots, struck early, as Karyn Riviere put home a ball at the 10:52 mark.  The score remained 1-0 through halftime, as Brett Maron made a save on the other shot on goal in the half.

Fairfield held the Huskies attack in check for the first 15 minutes of the second half, but goals at 60:05 and 62:12 put the game out of reach.  UConn managed 13 second half shots, with six on goal.  Annie Yi ended the UConn scoring at 70:39 with a knock from 25-yards out.

The Stags avoided the shutout on anMT Church penalty kick in the 88th minute, her first goal of the season.

Maron finished the game with four saves, while her UConn counterpart Stephanie Labbe recorded one save.  Fairfield committed one fewer foul, 11-10, in the game, but the Huskies out shot, 21-4, and had more corners, 5-1, than the Stags.

Church and Robyn Decker were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The Stags return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Boston College, ranked 10th in the most recent NSCAA poll.
