Oct 5, 2007
The Fairfield University women's soccer team began Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y., and came away with 2-1 win over host Canisius College. The Stags improve to 5-5-1 on the year, and 1-0-0 in the MAAC, while the Griffs fall to 3-6-1 overall and 0-1-0- in league play.
Fairfield controlled the tempo for a majority of the game, despite being out shot 13-8 for the contest. In the first half the Stags had four corner kick chances and were called for eight off sides, as the teams played scorelessly to the intermission.
Nicole Cavallaro broke the stalemate at 51:35, netting her second goal of the season. She deposited a long pass from Brett Maron, the keepers' first assist of the year. Cavallaro and Janna Breitenwischer both had assists on the insurance goal, feeding Casey Frobey for a goal at 66:33.
