Frobey's Goals Push Stags To 2-0 Win Over Siena
Oct 12, 2007
The Fairfield University women’s soccer continued its home
winning streak with a 2-0 win over Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference (MAAC) foe Siena College on Lessing Field. The
Stags improve to 7-5-1 overall and 3-0-0 in league play, while the
Saints fall to 3-7-1 on the year and 0-2-0 in MAAC play.
Siena controlled play for the first 30 minutes of the contest, and
the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 until Casey Frobey (Sandy
Hook, Conn.) scored a pair of goals in a 50 second span. The
first tally was a rocket that she sent to the top of the net from
the right side of the box, off of a pass from Alex Caram
(Lexington, Mass.).
The second goal was created by a nifty play by Nicole Cavallaro
(New Hyde Park, N.Y.) who, with her back to the goal, flipped the
ball over her head. She spun between a pair of Siena
defenders and fed Frobey outside the top of the box. Frobey
than pushed the ball past the Saints charging goalkeeper and into
the net.
Siena out shot the Stags 8-6 in the game, taking all five of the
second half shots, while the Stags did not record a chance in the
second half. Fairfield had a pair of corners, both in the
first period, while the Saints had one.
Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) posted her sixth shutout of the
year, and 23rd of her career, making four saves in 90 minutes of
play. Her Saints counterpart Patti Carroll allowed two goals
and was not credited with a save in her 90 minutes.
The Stags will return to MAAC action on Sunday, Oct. 14, when they
host Marist College at 7 p.m. on Lessing Field. The Red Foxes
are 5-3-2 overall and 2-0-0 in MAAC action.
