Cavallaro And Maron Earn MAAC Weekly Accolades

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University freshman Nicole Cavallaro (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) and senior Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after solid performances for the Stags.
Cavallaro wins the offensive honor for the second time, one of only three players to accomplish that feat this season and the only rookie. Maron also wins her award for the second time this campaign and the sixth time in the last two seasons. Cavallaro has also earned the Rookie of the Week accolade once this season.
Maron, a goalkeeper, went 2-0 for the Stags last week, including a shutout, while recording a 0.50 GAA and a save percentage of nearly 90 percent. Against Holy Cross, Maron stopped six shots while allowing just one goal. Maron recorded her seventh shutout of the season at Manhattan, making two saves in the effort. The shutout was the 24th of her career and she is a half a shutout shy of breaking the Fairfield record.
Maron leads the league in shutouts, and is second in GAA, saves and save percentage. She has made 92 saves this season and has a GAA of 0.91, which currently ranks third among the leaders for a single-season in Fairfield history. She has 33 career victories for the Stags, and has made 363 saves over the course of her four-year career.
Cavallaro, a forward, netted three goals and assisted on another to help Fairfield to a 2-0 week. She posted a hat trick in Fairfield's 4-1 victory at Holy Cross in a non-conference game on Oct. 23. She also assisted on the lone goal in the Stags' 1-0 win at Manhattan in a key MAAC victory on Oct. 26. In her rookie season, Cavallaro leads the team with six goals and 12 assists good for 24 points.
The 12 assists is good for fourth on the Stags single-season list, and is also good for 11th on the all-time assist list. Her 24 points is just shy of breaking into the single-season top 10 list in that category, and she is trying to become the fourth Stag rookie in as many years to capture the team point lead. She leads the league in assists, is second in points, and seventh in goals scored.
Fairfield (9-6-2) has a busy week with three games on the slate. The Stags head to Saint Peter's tomorrow, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. before returning home to host Loyola on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and Rider on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. Sunday marks Senior Day at Fairfield as the Stags will recognize its graduating class prior to the start of the game.
