Frobey's Pair Puts Stags Into First Place Tie With 5-1 Win At Saint Peter's

Oct 30, 2007

Good things come to those that wait, and for the Fairfield University women's soccer team, a 5-1 win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) host Saint Peter's on Tuesday night, it was worth the two day wait.

With the win, the Stags improve to 10-6-2 on the year and 5-1-1 in league play.  The 16 points they have amassed is good for a first place tie with Marist, and is one ahead of third place Loyola.  Fairfield also finishes the road portion of its MAAC schedule at 4-0-0.

The Peahens fall to 1-16 on the year and 0-8 in league play.

Sophomore Casey Frobey scored a pair of goals, including the game winner, and added an assist to pace the Stags effort in the win.  Frobey tallied her first goal, the game winner at 31:59, unassisted, to give Fairfield the 2-0 lead, that it would not relinquish.  She tallied a second goal at 71:52, again unassisted to push the lead to 4-0.  She than assisted on the team's final goal at 74:03.

Alex Caram got the offense going early, scoring from 25-yards out, in the eighth minute, on a pass from Ahna Johnson Frobey netted the second goal, and the team's went into the half with the score 2-0.  Nicole Cavallaro added her seventh goal of the year just 92 seconds into the second half, netting a pass from Amanda Vargo Frobey scored her second to make it 4-0 and Jill Eichler rounded out the scoring for the Stags in the 75th minute.  For Eichler the tally marked her first collegiate goal.

Brett Maron picked up her 10th win of the year, and 33rd of her career, making one save, in 90 minutes of action, while also allowing one goal.  Her Peahens counterpart Leigha Ashmen made five saves and allowed all five goals in playing the entire contest.

Fairfield out shot its host 16-5, and 10-2 in shots on goal, while recording all three corner kicks awarded in the contest.

For the second time in head coach Jim O'Brien's three seasons the Stags have won 10 games.  He has posted 29 wins in his tenure at Fairfield.

The Stags close out the regular season at home this weekend.  Fairfield will host Loyola at 7 p.m. on Friday night on Lessing Field.  The Stags will honor their senior class prior to the 1 p.m. Sunday start against Rider, also on Lessing Field.  A Fairfield win, or a loss by Siena, will clinch a spot in the four-team MAAC Tournament, Nov. 9-11.
