Women's Soccer Assistant Coach Tiffany Weimer Invited To U.S. National Team Training Camp

Feb 1, 2008

Fairfield University assistant women’s soccer coach Tiffany Weimer has been invited to attend a mega-camp organized by U.S National Team Coach Pia Sundhage at the Home Depot Center for a chance to earn a post on the U.S. team that will attempt to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.  Weimer began her training on Friday, Feb. 1.

“Tiffany was a wonderful addition to our staff,” said Fairfield’s third-year head coach Jim O’Brien.  “Her experience of playing at such a high level was invaluable to our staff and student-athletes.  It is very gratifying to see her get this opportunity.  Having known her for well over 10 years, I wish Tiffany well in her ultimate goal of representing our country as a member of the full U.S. National Team.”

Weimer is one of 37 players invited to attend the camp, of which 18 are current members of the national team.  The remaining 19 will be grouped together with the chance to impress Sundhage and be invited to continue in the next week’s training in preparation for the 2008 Algarve Cup.

The U.S. National Team will look to qualify for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad when it participates in the CONCACAF region qualifying April 2-13 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
