Corniel Selected To NSCAA All-Northeast Region Second Team
Dec 15, 2009
Fairfield University sophomore Jasmin Corniel (Yonkers, N.Y.) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region Second Team. Corniel is the ninth player in program history to be selected to an All-Northeast Region Team and is the third second-team selection, the first since Alex Caram following the 2007 season.
"I am excited for Jasmin to be recognized by the coaches with this honor," said Stags head coach Jim O'Brien. "She made great strides in her game over the past season and will be an integral part of our success the next two seasons."
Corniel, a graduate of Gorton High School, is the third Stags sophomore to earn NSCAA All-Northeast Region honors. Abby Allan was named to the second team in her sophomore season, 1997, and Pam Cluff received first-team accolades in 1999, following her second season with the Stags.
Corniel led the Stags in scoring this past season with 25 points, netting a team-best 10 goals, to earn First-Team All-MAAC. She ranked second in the conference in both of those categories as well. Corniel tallied two game-winning goals on the year, netting the decisive tally against Stony Brook and Hartford.
After two seasons with the Stags, Corniel has tallied 15 career goals and nine assists, for 39 points.
Fairfield finished the year with a 9-9-3 overall record and finished the year third in the MAAC with a 4-2-3 conference record. For the fifth-time under O'Brien the Stags qualified for the MAAC Tournament and have done so in every season except 2004.
