The Fairfield University women's soccer team took to the road on Friday and came away with a 0-0 double overtime tie with Providence College. The Stags record improves to 0-2-1, while the Friars are no 1-0-2.

The Stags defense was solid in the tie, with Brett Maron stopping both shots that she faced on goal, one in the second half and one in the first overtime. Providence managed 14 shots in the contest.

The Stags recorded 16 shots in the game, with eight coming from the foot of Alex Caram. Fairfield had seven shots in the first half, five in the second and then two each in both overtimes.

Caram had three shots on goal, while Betsy Nyman, Amanda Vargo and Chrissie Sidie all put a shot on net in the contest.

For Maron, and the Stags, it was the first shutout of the 2006 season, after posting seven shutouts during the 2005 campaign. It was the 11th career shutout for Maron, tying her with teammate Katie Ely, for fourth all-time at Fairfield.

The Friars goalkeeper, Laura Elfers, recorded six saves in the game.

Once again the Stags committed fewer fouls, 12, then their opponent, 19. However, the Friars had four corner kicks, to the Stags three.

Fairfield will once again look to play its home opener, this time against St. John's. That game is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5 on Lessing Field. The Stags first attempt at a home match, against Holy Cross, was postponed due to rain, and will be rescheduled in October.
