Box Score

Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Boston University this evening in front of 520 fans on Lessing Field. The Stags fall to 0-3-2 on the year, while the Terriers, fourth ranked in the Northeast Region, improve to 4-1-1.

The Terriers tallied the games lone goal just 6:09 into the contest. Lauren Basham crossed a ball from outside the box near the end line, through traffic in the middle of the box to the foot of Lauren Erwin. Erwin, located just outside the box inline with the far post, drove the ball on the ground, between the post and Fairfield keeper Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.)

Maron would mind the net the entire contest for the Stags, making five saves, and allowing no more goals. Stephanie Dreyer (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded four saves in posting the shutout.

The Stags had several chances in the game to know the score, but were turned away each time. Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.) recorded three shots, one a header that went wide left with 37 minutes to play, and another header with 22 minutes to play, that the keeper corralled, after Johnson fought through two defenders to get her head on the ball. MT Church (Centennial, Colo.) had a free kick from 40-yards in the 86th minutes, that skipped past several Stags in the box, but went out of bounds harmlessly.

The Terriers had a chance to increase the lead in the 78th minute of play, as Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass.) headed a ball high over the cross bar with an extra man rush to the box.

The Stags were outshot 11-8 in the contest, while BU had three corners to the Stags two. Fairfield committed 10 fouls, to the 19 of the visitor.

Fairfield will return to action on Friday, September 15 at the BAE Systems Tournament in West Point, N.Y. The Stags will play Delaware at 5 p.m. and then host Army, Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
