Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's soccer team blanked visiting Hartford this afternoon on Lessing Field, 3-0. The win improves the Stags to 3-3-3 on the year, while the Hawks drop to 2-8-0.

Emma Howes (Avalon, NSW, Australia) scored her first career goal, which turned out to be the game winner, at 33:54. Chrissie Sidie (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) fed a pass from the left wing to the top of the box, that Alex Caram (Lexington, Mass.) directed to the foot of Howes, who proceeded to lift the ball over the keeper.

The Stags second goal came from the foot of Caram. Janna Breitenwischer (Stow, Mass.) fed the ball from the 18-meter box to Caram in the middle of the box, she tapped the ball to herself and knocked it into the far corner.

Rookie Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.) wrapped up the scoring with her team leading fifth goal at 70:50. Amanda Vargo (Orange, Conn.) threaded the ball through the defenders and Frobey corralled it near the end line on the near side, and sent the ball into the lower corner near the far post.

Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) posted her second consecutive shutout, recording four saves, to go along with numerous plays on several dangerous cross' from the Hawks. Maron has not allowed a goal in 205:39, dating back to the Stags win against Army. Liz Cook (Halifax, Nova Scotia) minded the net for the Hawks, making six saves in playing the entire 90.

Fairfield out shot the Hawks 12-5, balancing six shots in each half. The Stags also held an edge in corner kicks, 6-1, and were called offsides twice. Fairfield committed 16 fouls, to the seven of Hartford, which was not called offsides in the contest.

The Stags will return to action on Friday, September 29, traveling to Loudonville, N.Y. for a 4 p.m. conference matchup with Siena.
