Box Score

The Fairfield University women's soccer team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Saint Peter's 3-0 on Lessing Field this afternoon. The win gives the Stags a 7-4-4 overall mark and a 3-0-2 league record, while the Peahens drop to 2-12-1 on the year and 0-5-1 in MAAC action.

Laura Mrowka (Branford, Conn.) wasted no time in giving the Stags all the offense they would need. Just 78 seconds into the game she took a pass from Alex Caram (Lexington, Mass.) and knocked it home. Amanda Varga (Orange, Conn.) would tally an unassisted goal at 25:03, as she lifted the ball over the keeper from the middle of the box.

The Stags wrapped up the scoring at 63:25 when Janna Breitenwischer (Stow, Mass.) one touched a long pass from Robyn Decker (Chester, Conn.) past a defender, and then popped the ball past the keeper.

Katie Ely (Schnecksville, Pa.) started the game in goal for the Stags, earning the win with 69:51 of scoreless soccer, but was not faced with a shot. Bridget Nerich (Chevy Chase, Md.) minded the net for the final 20:09 and made two saves. Jilian Fueshko (Clifton, N.J.) recorded 10 saves for the Peahens in the 90 minutes.

The shutout is the third straight for the Stags, who have not allowed a goal in 298 minutes of action, dating back to the contest at Yale.

Fairfield out shot the Peahens 25-3 in the game, including 18-2 in the second half. The Stags had seven corner kick chances, the Peahens two, and the Peahens committed more fouls, 10-8.

The Stags are back in action on Friday, October 20, when they travel to Baltimore, Md., for a MAAC contest at Loyola. That game is set for 3 p.m.
