The Fairfield University women's soccer team defeated host Rider University 3-0 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game Sunday afternoon. The Stags improve to 8-5-4 on the year and 4-1-2 in conference action, while the Broncs fall to 4-8-2 overall and 2-4-0 in league play.
Casey Frobey scored the game-winning goal at 12:45, as she collected a rebound from a shot of Ahna Johnson and knocked it home from six-yards out. Laura Mrowka gave the Stags their second goal of the game at 27:07. After the ball was knocked around in the middle of the box, Mrowka collected the ball on the far post and slid it home.
Frobey netted her second goal of the game in the second half. She took control of the ball near midfield, dribbled past the defenders and chipped the ball over the keeper. It marked the fourth time this season that she has touched net twice in a single outing.
Brett Maron recorded five saves in the contest to post her sixth shutout of the season and her third in her last four outings. kim Carter made five saves for Rider, allowing all three goals.
The Stags out shot the Broncs 15-13, but had les corner kick chances, 8-5.
Fairfield will close out the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Canisius Friday at 7 p.m. and Niagara, Sunday at noon.
