Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University women's soccer player Betsy Nyman (South Glastonbury, Conn.) has been named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America East Region Third Team. Nyman becomes the fifth Stag in program history to earn the honor, and first sine 1997.
"Betsy has been a great asset to me during our transitional period these past two seasons," said head coach Jim O'Brien. "She has served as a `coach on the field' and helped us take the strides that we have taken."
Nyman is scheduled to graduate in May with a degree in Business-Finance. She is a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team selection. In addition, Nyman has been named to the University's Dean List in two of her semesters.
Her success has been equally impressive on the field, where she earned First Team All-MAAC accolades as a senior. She started all 77 games she played during her Fairfield career, tying the school record in that category. She has been named to the All-MAAC Tournament team twice, was named All-MAAC Second Team as a junior and earned All-MAAC Rookie Team accolades in 2003.
