A week after heavy rain forced a postponement of the Fairfield University women's soccer scheduled home opener against Holy Cross, the Stags will try again tonight at 7 p.m., hosting St. John's.

Tonight's contest will mark the fourth meeting between the Stags and Red Storm, with the Stags having a 1-2-0 mark in the series. The Red Storm captured the first two meetings of the series, 5-0 in 1992 and 3-0 in 1993, before the Stags broke through in 1994, with a 3-1 win at home.

Fairfield was picked to win the MAAC, by the leagues coaches, while St. John's was tabbed fifth in the Big East poll.

Tonight's Match-up ... The Fairfield University women's soccer team opens the home portion of its 2006 schedule tonight, hosting the St. John's University. The Stags enter the contest with an 0-2-1 mark, while the Red Storm are 2-0-0 on the young season.

A 15th Anniversary Celebration ... The 2006 campaign marks the 15th season of women's soccer as a varsity sport at Fairfield. Each home game will have an annivesery moment in the game program, and there will be a variety of events at during Homecoming Weekend to honor the players who have made the Stags soccer program a success.

Tossing a Shutout ... Brett Maron backstopped the Stags to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Providence in the Stags last outing. Her first shutout of the year, it was the 11th of her career at Fairfield, tying her with teammate Katie Ely for fourth on the Stags all-time list.

Game Key ... Something will have to give if the Stags are going to win their first game of the year tonight. The Stags are averaging 0.33 goals per game across their first three games, while the Red Storm have yet to allow an opponents goal in two games. St. John's is averaging 2.0 goals per game, while the Stags are allowing 1.67.

Ratings War ... Fairfield enters tonight's game ranked 15th in the Northeast in the September 4 SoccerBuzz poll. The Stags were 12th in the region in the preseason poll, the first such ranking since the end of the 2001 season. The Red Storm are ranked 13th in this weeks regional poll.

What Lies Ahead for the Stags ... The Stags will not play again until a week from tonight, when they host Boston University at 7 p.m. Fairfield will then travel to West Point, N.Y. for the BAE Systems Touranment, taking on Delaware on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. and the host, Army, Sunday at 1 p.m. The Stags begin MAAC play Sept. 22 at Iona.

Anniversary Moment Sept. 20, 1992

On this day, for the first time as a varsity program, Fairfield University women's soccer took to the pitch. The Stags traveled to MAAC foe Manhattan College for that first contest, and won the game, 3-0. It marked a program opening three game win streak, which included a 5-0 win at Siena. The Stags program home opener came on September 30, with a 4-1 win over Saint Peter's.
