Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University women's soccer player Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week, announced this afternoon.
Maron, a graduate of Billerica High School, posted a double-overtime shutout of Providence on Friday, as the Stags earned a 0-0 tie. She made a pair of saves in the contest. It was the first shutout of the season for the junior, and the 11th of her career. That career shutout total ties her for fourth place all-time, with current teammate Katie Ely.
Maron backstopped the Stags to the 2005 NCAA Tournament, with a 10-7-3 record. She made 101 saves a season ago and posted seven shutouts, as she minded the net for every second of the 20-match campaign. Maron was named First Team All-MAAC and earned MAAC All-Tournament Team accolades.
Through three games this season, Maron has recorded 11 saves, while allowing five goals.
The award marks the first of the year for the Stags.
Maron will lead the Stags back into action tonight, September 5, against St. John's. That game is set for 7 p.m. She will then lead the Stags against Boston University on September 12, also at 7 p.m. on Lessing Field.
