Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University women's soccer player Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week, after helping lead the Stags to a 2-1-0 week and a championship at the BAE Systems Classic. Frobey is the second Stag to earn a MAAC weekly accolade this season, the first to earn Rookie of the Week honors.
Frobey, a graduate of Newtown High School, tallied two goals in the Stags first win of the year, a 4-2 defeat of previously undefeated University of Delaware. She scored the game-winner early in the second half, as she netted a pass from Alex Caram (Lexington, Mass.) from the left side and redirecting it into the right side of the net.
The second goal in the win over Delaware was a solid individual effort. Frobey intercepted a potential clearance pass from the keeper, pushed the ball past her, hurdled the keeper on the ground, and beat two charging defenders to the ball, knocking it into the net.
Frobey is the Stags leading scorer helping the squad to a 2-3-2 record. She has scored a team best four goals, including a game-winner, and leads the squad with eight points.
Frobey will lead the Stags into MAAC play in their next outing, when the team travels to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Iona at 3 p.m. Fairfield is next at home on Sunday, September 24, when it hosts Hartford.
