Fairfield University women's soccer players Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) and Emma Howes (Avalon, NSW, Australia) were selected the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive and Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference office this afternoon. The award is the second of the season for Maron, and the first for Howes.

Maron has not allowed a goal in 205 minutes of action, and posted a pair of shutouts during the last week. She earned a 3-0 win over Hartford on Sunday, making five saves, two days after blanking Iona in double-overtime. In the Stags conference opener, Maron made four saves.

Maron has not posted three shutouts on the year, and moved into fourth place all-time at Fairfield, with 13 career shutouts. In nine games, 850:46, Maron has made 40 saves, which is good for third in the conference. She also ranks third in the league with a save percentage of .800, and is fifth with a GAA of 1.06.

Emma Howes made her first collegiate goal a game winner on Sunday.

Howes wasted little time in impacting the Stags outcome against Hartford on Sunday. She subbed into the game and 30 seconds later put the game-winning goal into the back of the net. The goal is the first of her collegiate career and makes her the sixth Stag to touch the back of the net this season.

Fairfield has gone 3-0-1 over its last four games, improving to 3-3-3 on the year. The Stags are atop the MAAC at 0-0-1, after the 0-0 tie at Iona.

The Stags return to MAAC play this weekend, traveling to Siena on Friday and Marist on Sunday.
