The Fairfield University women's soccer team earned several postseason accolades when they were announced at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) postseason banquet, held Thursday night at the Trumbull Marriott. Headlining the Stags honors were junior Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.), who were named the Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Maron has minded the Stags' net for over 1,660 minutes this season, recording 83 saves and posting a league best 0.87 goals against average. She has notched seven shutouts this season, and her save percentage of 83.8 percent, is also tops in the league.

Casey Frobey is the Stags third MAAC Rookie of the Year, the first since 2001.

Frobey led the Stags offensively this season, tallying 12 goals and three assists, for 27 points. Her 12 goals is the third best single-season effort in program history, and put her among the nation's best for rookies. Her goals and points rank her third in the league, while her point total ranks her eighth in the Stags single-season record book.

Maron also earned First Team All-MAAC accolades for her season's effort. This is the second consecutive year in which she was voted the league's top goalkeeper. She has plenty of company on the first team, as five Stags earned the accolade. Senior Betsy Nyman (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior MT Church (Centennial, Colo.) were both named to the first team as defenders. Nyman, should she start in the MAAC semifinal Friday night, will set a new school record for career starts, as it would be her 78th. Church has played every game for the Stags and has contributed on the offensive end with two goals, including a game-winner, and an assist.

Junior Alex Caram (Lexington, Mass.) earned First Team honors in the midfield for the Stags, after earning a selection to the second team last season. She finished the regular season second on the team with 16 points. She scored five goals, including a pair of game winning goals. She also led the team with six assists. Sophomore Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.) was the other Stag to earn First Team honors, being selected at forward. She was third on the team with 12 points this season, with four goals and four assists.

Frobey took home two other awards on the night, as she was the lone Stag named to the All-MAAC Second Team. She also earned All-MAAC Rookie Team accolades, along with classmates Chrissie Sidie (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and Adrienne Boyer (Somers, Conn.). Sidie, a midfielder, played in 19 games and made eight starts for Fairfield. She tallied a pair of goals, including a game-winner, and had four assists. Boyer, a defender, played in all 19 games this season. She made 12 starts and contributed one assist to the Stags offensive efforts.

The Stags were also well represented on the MAAC All-Academic Team, with 11 players making the squad. To earn All-Academic honors, a player must have completed one year at the institution, be a starter or significant reserve and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The Stags named to the All-Academic Team were: Janna Breitenwischer (Stow, Mass.), Alex Caram, MT Church, Jen DeBrincat (Tobyhanna, Pa.), Jill Eichler (Hebron, Conn.), Katie Ely (Schnecksville, Pa.), Ahna Johnson, Betsy Nyman, Mady St. Onge (Bronxville, N.Y.), Amanda Vargo (Orange, Conn.), and Nikki Zoller (Wall, N.J.).

Fairfield posted a 9-6-4 overall record on the year, and went 5-2-2 in MAAC play. The Stags are the number three seed in the MAAC Tournament, and will take on number two seed Niagara, at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Lessing Field. Top seed Loyola will play number four seed Siena at 4 p.m. Friday. The championship game will be played on Sunday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
