Fairfield, Conn. - Niagara University earned a 2-0 victory over Fairfield University in the second semifinal game of the 2006 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship at the Stags' Lessing Field.

The second-seeded Purple Eagles got on the scoreboard at the 12:48 mark as senior midfielder Emily Montgomery headed in a free kick by sophomore midfielder Shaylyn Lawrence for her eighth goal this season.

Junior midfielder Brittany Bisnott then scored an insurance goal at 80:08 to give the Purple Eagles their second goal of the night.

Fairfield had a chance to close within one as junior defender MT Church took a penalty kick at the 84:05 mark, but freshman goalie Sarah Stephens made a diving stop to notch her third shutout of the season.

Stephens finished the night with six saves. Fairfield netminder Brett Maron recorded two saves for the third-seeded Stags. Niagara is now 11-6-1 entering the championship game, while Fairfield concluded its season at 9-7-4 overall.

Niagara will face fourth-seeded Siena College in the championship game on Sunday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m., live on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network. The winner of the 2006 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship will earn an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
