Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University junior women's soccer player Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) was named Third Team All-Northeast Region by the NSCAA. Maron becomes the first Stag women's soccer player since 1999 to earn an All-Region accolade from the soccer coaches association.
"I am very happy for Brett," said second-year head coach Jim O'Brien. "I am pleased that the coaches recognized the caliber of player that she is and what she means to our team."
Maron was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Year, after posting an 8-6-4 mark in goal for the Stags. The First Team All-MAAC selection notched 85 saves, while allowing just 18 goals in nearly 1800 minutes of action.
She posted a goals-against-average of 0.93 was the best in the MAAC, and was the third-best single-season mark in Fairfield's history. She also led the MAAC in save percentage, stopping 82.5 percent of the shots on net. In that same realm, she posted a league best seven shutouts, for the second straight year.
Maron moved into third place all-time at Fairfield with 17 career shutouts, and is in striking distance of the school record, 24.5. She is also third all-time at Fairfield with 271 career saves, and her 23 wins ranks her fourth all-time.
The Stags posted a 9-7-4 overall mark and finished third in the MAAC going 5-2-2. Fairfield advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament, before falling to the eventual champion.
