Fairfield University head women's soccer coach announced that current juniors Janna Breitenwischer (Stow Mass.), Alex Caram (Lexington, Mass.), and Brett Maron (Billerica, Mass.) have been named team captains for the 2007 season.
"These three young ladies are well qualified to serve as our team captains," O'Brien said. "I am confidant that they will provide the leadership on and off the field that we need to continue the rise of Stags women's soccer."
Breitenwischer is a member of the Stags defensive unit that allowed only 0.91 goals per game over a 9-7-4 campaign in 2006. She has started all 58 games that she has played in three seasons with the Stags, and with healthy senior campaign will challenge the program record for starts, 77, held by three players.
Caram has made her presence felt in her first two seasons with the Stags, tallying 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists in her 40 games as a Stag. She earned First Team all-MAAC accolades this season, netting five goals and dishing out a team-best six assists.
Maron is the most decorated of the trio, becoming the first women's soccer player since 1999 to earn NSCAA Third Team All-Northeast Region honors. The 2006 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Maron led the league with a 0.93 GAA and a save percentage of 82.5 percent. She recorded 85 saves and allowed just 18 goals in nearly 1800 minutes of action.
The Stags were 9-7-4 overall last season, and finished third in the MAAC at 5-2-2.
