Softball Coach Brzezinski Goes For 300th Career Fairfield Win This Weekend

Apr 3, 2008

FAIRFIELD, Conn. --  Fairfield University Head Softball Coach Julie Brzezinski looks for her 300th victory this weekend when the Stags open the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of their schedule this weekend. The team hosts Siena College on April 5 and Marist College on April 6 with both doubleheaders beginning at 1 pm.

Brzezinski enters this weekend's action with 298 wins at Fairfield University. Her record as the Stags head coach stands at 298-285-5, which brings her overall coaching slate to 543-480-5. She started her career at Campbell University, where she posted a 245-195 overall record and advanced three conference titles - two Big South championships and one Trans Atlantic Conference crown.

She is the program's all-time winningest coach, more than doubling Bob Zito's win total. Zito held the school record for career wins before Brzezinski's tenure, winning 126 games over eight seasons. Brzezinski won 20 or more games in each of her first 10 seasons, and averaged 29 victories per year during her stay. The Stags won 30 or more games four times under her tutelage, the only 30-win seasons in school history. Fairfield set a school standard for wins in a season with 36 during the 2001 campaign (36-22-1).

The Stags bring a 8-16-1 overall record into this weekend's action, which includes a two-game sweep of Yale University in the team's last outing on Wednesday afternoon.
