
Softball Extends Win Streak To Seven Games With Sweep Of Central Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a sweep of Central Connecticut State University. Julia Jacoby and Kristie Trifiolis each had five hits in the double header, including three hits in the first game.
The Stags jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opener, but had to hold on for an 8-6 victory. Freshman Sarah Minice recorded the last out of the game with a strike out to earn her first career save. Kelli Panter scattered nine hits and fanned seven batters to pick up the victory.
Fairfield scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning as Kristina Lingo tripled home the first run and Erin Frank sent home the second run with a double. Jacoby scored the third run of the game when Trifiolis laced a triple to make the score 3-0. A three-run sixth inning pushed the lead to 6-0 as Jacoby recorded the only RBI of the inning.
Central Connecticut made responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Fairfield nearly regained its six-run edge with two runs in the seventh inning. The Blue Devils made things interesting with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh, but Minice's strike out ended the game for Fairfield.
The Stags were in control of the nightcap from the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 7-1 victory. Danielle Iovino hit her first career home run with a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Breanne Morschauser also homered in the game, a solo blast in the second inning to plate the Stags' first run.
Minice hurled the first three innings before yielding to Iovino for the final two innings.
Fairfield returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Canisius College. The Stags finish the two-day road trip with a twinbill at Niagara University on Sunday morning.
